Peter Gabriel and Real World Studios

Real World was set up in 1986 with one guiding principle in mind: in the words of its founder Peter Gabriel, “that it must be possible for any talented musicians in the world, regardless of nationality or home, to reach an international public.”

True to this doctrine, the pioneering record label and studio has perhaps done more to introduce musicians from all over the world to western audiences than any other single organisation.

A speaker company and rock star going into business may seem an odd partnership but when you consider the dedication and lifelong passion on both sides to business innovation and stunning sound quality, it makes perfect sense.

Real World Studios have always had a unique approach; one that has set it apart since its inception twenty years ago from the vast majority of recording facilities.

Conceived and designed from the onset to offer an environment that is sympathetic to the creation and performance of music, whilst providing state of the art technology with which to capture it.

The aim of Society of Sound music is to make recordings of the highest possible standard with no commercial restrictions. Therefore what is delivered to Society of Sound is what leaves the mixing console under the control of the artist and producer, accurately reproducing the creative statement they want to make.

Peter Gabriel has always understood the power of performing live, “Whatever the music, whatever the technology, great records come from great performances.”

The diversity of music offered is intended to delight, entertain and sometimes challenge the discerning listener. The only essential criteria is quality – both of the audio experience and the passion and integrity of the performance.

The music selected will not be restricted by genre, language or geographical source – whether it is jazz, rock, classical or world music – it is for the enjoyment of those who have open ears.

At the Real World Studios we get musicians from all over the world, who often can’t talk to each other. We give them the technology to make noises, and they start making noises, and suddenly there’s a common language. That’s when things take off. |Peter Gabriel|Founder of Real World Records
